How do you learn something online?

The internet and social media are such a big part of our daily lives, so we asked people on the street what they were learning online and how they were doing it.

When you're learning a language and you're not sure about the meanings of certain words, you can 'look it up'.

"I didn't know the meaning of that English word. So I looked it up online."

You may also hear some people say they "google their questions". It means they use a search engine, like Google, to look for answers about questions they have.

"I guess I always google my questions because they are the ones you don’t want to ask people."

When you have been learning something and you have not made much progress, you can say you 'never really picked it up'.

"I have tried learning Spanish but I never really picked it up."

To 'pick something up' can mean to learn something on your own by practising it rather than being taught how to do it.

"I picked up a few words after my first French class."

A 'walk-through' is a noun and can refer to a set of instructions telling you how to do something.

"Whenever you need to fix something or something like that, you just go on YouTube and someone’s got a really detailed walk-through on how to take your phone apart."
